2-Step Paint Correction in Middlesbrough & Teesside

This is the service for those who want it done properly. 2-Step Paint Correction is our most comprehensive paintwork restoration—a meticulous two-stage process that removes up to 95% of visible defects and restores your car’s finish to a level that rivals (or exceeds) factory-fresh condition.

When heavy swirl marks, deep scratches, oxidation, or years of neglect have left your paint looking tired, 2-Step Correction is the answer. The first stage cuts away the damage; the second stage refines the surface to jewel-like clarity. It’s the closest you can get to new paint without a respray—and in many cases, the results exceed what the factory delivered.

We cover Middlesbrough, Stockton, Redcar, and the wider Teesside area, with this service typically carried out at our unit where we have controlled conditions and proper lighting.

The Two-Stage Process Explained

Stage 1: Cutting (Defect Removal) Using a rotary or dual-action polisher with wool or heavy-cut foam pads and aggressive compound, we systematically work each panel to remove the damage. This stage targets deep swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, water spots, and other defects that have accumulated over time. We’re physically removing a thin layer of clear coat—along with the defects embedded in it.

Stage 2: Refining (Gloss Enhancement) After cutting, the paint is defect-free but may have micro-marring from the first stage. The refining stage uses finer polish and softer pads to remove this haze and bring the gloss level to its maximum potential. This is where the magic happens—paint transforms from clean to stunning.

The two-stage approach allows us to be more aggressive with defect removal while still achieving a flawless, optically clear finish. Single-stage correction has to compromise between cutting power and finish quality; 2-Step doesn’t.

What Defects Does 2-Step Correct?

Heavy Swirl Marks: Deep circular scratches from years of automatic car washes and poor technique. 2-Step removes 90-95% of even heavy swirling.

Scratches: Surface scratches that haven’t penetrated through the clear coat. We can assess depth during your booking—if you can catch your fingernail in a scratch, results may vary, but most scratches respond well.

Oxidation: The chalky, faded appearance from UV degradation. Common on older vehicles or those parked outside. 2-Step cuts through oxidation to reveal fresh paint underneath.

Water Spots & Etching: Mineral deposits from hard water or acid rain that have bonded to or etched into the clear coat. Most water spotting corrects fully.

Bird Dropping & Tree Sap Damage: Organic contaminants that have etched into the clear coat. The sooner these are addressed, the better the outcome—but 2-Step can often improve even older damage.

Holograms from Poor Previous Polishing: Buffer trails left by inexperienced detailers using rotary polishers incorrectly. We correct this fully in the refining stage.

What’s Included in the Complete Package

Thorough Decontamination Before any polishing, your car receives our full decontamination process: safe hand wash, iron fallout remover (critical in Teesside where industrial particles and brake dust accumulate), tar spot removal, and clay bar treatment. This removes all bonded contamination so we’re polishing clean paint.

2-Step Machine Correction The full two-stage polishing process described above, carried out under professional inspection lighting. We work panel by panel, checking our progress with different light angles to ensure defects are properly addressed.

Interior Deep Clean Your interior receives a comprehensive clean: full vacuum of all surfaces and crevices, steam cleaning of fabrics, leather treatment if applicable, dashboard and trim detail, and interior glass cleaned streak-free. The interior transformation matches the exterior.

Engine Bay Detail We clean and dress your engine bay, removing grime and restoring plastics. A clean engine bay completes the presentation—especially important if you’re showing or selling the car.

Paint Protection Spray sealant is included for 3 months of protection. However, we strongly recommend ceramic coating for paint correction of this level. Options range from 1-year ceramic for daily drivers to 7-year ceramic for long-term protection. Ceramic coating locks in your corrected finish and makes maintaining it far easier.

How Long Does It Take?

2-Step Paint Correction requires 8 to 12 hours of polishing work alone, typically spread across 2 to 3 days. Add the interior clean, engine bay detail, and ceramic coating application (if chosen), and the complete package takes 2-3 days.

This isn’t a service we rush. Proper correction under proper lighting takes time—and the results justify the investment. Your car will be treated with care throughout its stay.

Why 2-Step Over 1-Step?

The difference is in the results:

1-Step Correction removes up to 75% of defects in a single pass. It’s excellent for moderately marked paint and represents great value. But because the same product has to cut and refine, there’s always a trade-off between cutting power and finish quality.

2-Step Correction removes up to 95% of defects because each stage is optimised for its purpose. Stage 1 cuts aggressively; Stage 2 refines to perfection. The finish quality is noticeably superior—deeper gloss, sharper reflections, and that “wet look” that makes paint truly impressive.

If your paint has heavy damage or you want the absolute best finish possible, 2-Step is the answer. If damage is moderate and budget matters, 1-Step delivers excellent results at a lower price point.

Who This Service Is For

2-Step Paint Correction is ideal for:

  • Show cars and concours entries where finish quality is paramount
  • Enthusiast vehicles you’re deeply proud of and want looking their absolute best
  • Heavily damaged paint with deep swirls, scratches, or oxidation that 1-Step won’t fully address
  • Pre-ceramic coating prep where you want the best possible foundation to lock in
  • High-value vehicles where maintaining condition matters
  • Cars being prepared for sale where exceptional presentation justifies premium pricing
  • New cars with dealer damage that deserve better than their delivered condition

The Professional Difference

We see the results of DIY correction attempts regularly—burned clear coat, holograms, uneven surfaces, and damage that’s now permanent. Professional 2-Step correction uses:

  • Proper lighting: Dedicated inspection lights reveal defects invisible in normal conditions
  • Paint depth gauges: We measure clear coat thickness to ensure safe correction
  • Temperature control: Panel temperature is monitored to prevent burning
  • Multiple compounds and pads: Different combinations for different defects and paint types
  • Years of experience: Knowing when to be aggressive and when to stop

The equipment matters, but experience matters more. We know how to read paint, adapt our approach mid-job, and deliver consistent results across the entire vehicle.

Products & Equipment

We use professional polishing systems from Rupes and Flex—the same machines used by the world’s best detailers. Compounds and pads from Koch-Chemie, Menzerna, and Scholl Concepts allow us to match products to your specific paint type and condition. For protection, Gyeon ceramic coatings range from 1-year to 7-year durability.

The Final Result

Expect up to 95% defect removal and a finish that genuinely rivals new paint. In direct sunlight, instead of a web of swirl marks you’ll see deep, clear reflections. Colours will appear richer and more vibrant. The paint will have that “wet look” gloss that makes people stop and stare.

Combined with the interior deep clean and engine bay detail, your car will feel completely transformed—inside and out. It’s a proper reset that makes you fall in love with your car again.
